Single Facer Corrugation Machine: Working, Types and Buying Guide

The single facer corrugation machine is the heart of board making. It turns plain paper into fluted, single faced board that later becomes 3 ply or 5 ply sheets. This guide explains how it works, the main types and what to check before buying.
How a single facer works
Paper for the flute is fed between two grooved steel rollers that are heated and pressed together. The rollers form the wave shape. Starch glue is applied to the flute tips and a flat liner paper is pressed against them, creating single face corrugated board.
Main types of single facer machines
We manufacture several designs, and the right one depends on your speed, board quality and budget:
- Single facer paper corrugation machine: a straightforward design for general board making.
- Oblique corrugation machine: uses an angled roller arrangement for smooth running.
- Finger oblique machine: uses finger guides to hold the paper against the roller.
- Double profile machine: able to make two flute profiles.

Single facers suit smaller and mid sized plants. High speed machines, such as the high speed oblique corrugation machine, are built for higher output and continuous running. The right choice depends on how many square metres of board you need each day.
What to check before you buy
- Roller material and finish: the flute profile must be accurate and wear resistant.
- Working width: match it to the board width you sell.
- Heating system: electrical, steam or thermic fluid, based on what your plant supports.
- Drive and power: check the motor rating and the speed range.
- Frame strength: a rigid frame keeps rollers aligned for consistent board.
- Service and spares: rollers and bearings should be easy to get.
Keep the machine running well
Clean glue residue daily, check roller gaps and lubricate bearings as per schedule. Our maintenance checklist covers the routine in detail.
Frequently asked questions
What does a single facer produce?
It produces single face corrugated board: one flat liner glued to a fluted layer.
Can one machine make different flutes?
A machine is built for specific roller profiles. A double profile machine can handle two profiles; others need roller changes.
Which heating type is best?
It depends on your plant utilities. Electrical heating is easy to install, while steam or thermic fluid suits plants that already have a boiler.
